When I was a child, I had a Goldenbook that showed how God is always with us and these simple truths brought me great comfort. At night, when we are alone in the dark, God is with us. If we travel across the seas, He is with us. If we are in a room full of people, feeling rejected, He is with us. He sees us. He sees you.
Unlike the Santa phrase, “he sees you when you’re sleeping; he knows when you’re awake,” I didn’t feel creeped out but comforted by the fact that my Creator Father keeps me and always has his protective hand over my life.
If you haven’t watched the series by Dallas Jenkins, The Chosen, download your free VidAngel app and watch it this week! You won’t regret it; the visualization and humanizing qualities of the disciples’ relationship with Jesus has impacted me more than I could articulate. Without giving everything away, there’s an episode that surrounds the attributes of El Roi, He is the God who sees me. Jesus pauses to minister to the worried and neglected spirits of women on the outskirts and tells them that they are valuable to him. When we feel most misunderstood, rejected, unimportant, or alone, God reaches out. His eyes meet our humble state and He says, “Yes, I see you. You are not forgotten. You are mine and I love you. I choose you.”
God is for us. He will never leave us. He will never fail us. You can hold onto His promise that He created you, loves you (so much that he died a horrible death to take on your sin/punishment), and He hasn’t walked away. He is near. Draw close, my friend.
“He will not let your foot slip–he who watches over you will not slumber… The Lord watches over you–the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm–he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” Ps. 121:3, 5-8
